More Spiffin' Up Under the Trees

In my Backyard Cleanup post (two posts ago), I showed you some dead trees that a storm brought down.  We decided to take down several more dead trees and ugly stumps before cleaning up.  Hi-ho-hi-ho, it's off to work we go!  Actually, Lumberjack George did the really hard work so that little ditty is about him.  He had the chainsaw rockin' and rollin'!

How about some BEFORE AND AFTER pics?

Note that in many of the Before pics the trees aren't budded out yet.  What a difference it makes now that they are all greened up!

First, I want to show you the dry creek bed
that divides the treed section of the backyard.
Just past the dry creek bed, this pic
shows the pavilion side (or left side).
Here's the opposite (right) side.

DRY CREEK BED
BEFORE
It's hard to see but it meanders between
those two closest and biggest trees,
and then curves to the right just a tad bit.
AFTER
Perhaps you can see it better in these two pics.
It ends between the
evergreens in the distance.
Note the curvy tree on the right.
We came out one day and this rather
large hole that Daisy is investigating
had been dug under that tree.
It wasn't there the night before.
What critter would dig a hole that big?
It certainly wasn't me!
I was sleeping.
As far as I know, I was not sleep digging.
Besides, I couldn't dig that hole wide awake!

Could it be an armadillo?
Raccoon?
Skunk?
Yikes!

The yard is fenced but critters come under the fence from the other two yards.  The trees are thick in those yards because they were never cleared.  We thought they were small critters like rabbits but apparently not.  Moreover, there are no holes that are very big under the fence so it's a mystery.  George filled in the hole and so far it has stayed that way.

that Lumberjack Geo cut down.
Looking better...
AFTER
All mowed!

We took out a couple more little trees
at the far end after this pic was taken.

You can't see the pavilion in the distance.

(Left side of the dry creek bed.)
The pavilion is to the left of the Miata.
It's our secret place in the summer because
you can't tell that the pavilion is there.

The view from the pavilion back toward
the house (opposite the picture above).
The trees cascade toward the front
of the area making it hidden.

 We are enjoying it!
It's always cooler there too.

So far, we've filled 67 Contractor's bags.

The limbs and logs filled the
trailer and the back of the pick up.
We took them to the dump on Saturday.

Now we're thinking about cutting all these
vines back that are hanging over the fence.
It requires lots of sitting and thinking
and sitting and thinking.

Spring Smiles,
