Day 3~Durango, Our Final Day

Believe it or not, I've finally gotten around to posting our final day in Durango!

First off, if I had 1,000 thumbs I'd use them all to give 1,000 thumbs up to the cabins where we stayed. I can't say enough good things about O-Bar-O Cabins! Just 12 pretty miles out of Durango, nine cabins are available, and we happily called the lovely Hummingbird cabin our home for several days. It was quaint, clean, and provided all the modern comforts of home and then some.  With the soothing sound of the busy Florida River bouncing along just outside the back door, it is an amazing place for a relaxing getaway!

Maria and Mike, two of the owners, were more than accommodating. They live in one of the cabins and were friendly, full of information and guidance, and a pleasure to be around. I highly recommend O-Bar-O Cabins! Check out the link for pictures and more info.

On our last day in Durango, we walked around the property first thing that morning.

Pretty little dam!

Beautiful, tall, tall trees!
Love it!

George under teepee supports.
That's probably not what they're
called but it's what I call them.

Can ya hear the Florida River
navigating its destined path?

Go for it Jack!
And he did.

The Pointer Brothers
(No relation to the Pointer Sisters).

Resting up after all that pointing.

Jack and George sporting their new boots

After walking the property, we headed
to see the cliff dwellings of the
Ancestral Pueblo people.

This is the driveway leading
from the cabins to the road.

Walking to the dwellings

Very cool but I sure
wouldn't want to live there!

Interesting place but I wondered
where the microwave was...

And where was their big screen TV!

Great view!

We went down a ladder and came out
in a very tiny underground room where
there was not much to do but point!

Middy, Jack and Me in the underground room.
Perhaps this was the Pueblo media room?

After Mesa Verde, we headed back
to the cabin to sit by the fire pit.
It was a chilly but gorgeous day.

Jack fed the fire.
It was quite hungry!

We broke out the hot dogs!
Middy and I wondered if bears
would show up but they didn't.

This beautiful kitty joined us.
I'm not sure if this is
Peanut or Crouton but he
belongs to the owners.

It was a relaxing, joyous day except for
knowing that we had to leave in the morning!

Roasted marshmallows were mandatory.

And quite tasty too!

After the fire pit, we retired to the cabin and
watched the Mavericks win a playoff game. YAY!
It was an awesome time and I want to go back!

Next up, Josh & Sheri's wedding.

Durango~Day 2

It has taken me a couple of weeks but I finally got around to posting the Day 2 in Durango pics.

We woke up to some unique,
thin and wide icicles hanging
from the cabin's porch.

Then we rode the Durango and Silverton
Narrow Gauge Railroad train from
Durango to Silverton and back.

It was 3-1/2 hours each way!

The views were magnificent!

George put his head out the window
to snap this pic of Jack and Middy
sitting in the seat in front of us.
I like that the countryside is
reflected in the window too!

Letting off steam as we cross a bridge.

This is at Rockwood.
A railroad graveyard perhaps?

We all had our heads out the
window at one time or another
checking out this stop for water.

It started snowing as we neared Silverton.
We had two hours there so we ate lunch
and walked through a few shops.

It was really cold too!
It didn't feel cold when it snowed
in Durango the day before.

Can you see it snowing?
This is on the way back.

Fabulous pic of Jack and Middy!
Love it!

That's it for Day 2.  Hopefully, it won't take me two weeks to get to Day 3!  I'll try to do better but there's a lot going on around here these days.  Preston and Triston are coming for the weekend too.  Yahoo!

Sending Smiles,

Durango ~ Day 1

We recently returned from a wonderful trip to Durango with Jack and Middy.

We were really excited to see that it had just snowed a little on the evening of our arrival but we were even more thrilled when we woke up the next morning to find that it was snowing once again!
Woo-hoo!

The view out of the cabin's
front door that first morning!

The snow out of the side window
showing the cabin next door.

And the view across the back porch from
the picture window in the living room.

Another back view taken from the
edge of the cabin's porch. That's the
Florida River but it's pronounced
"Flow Rita" in their neck of the woods!

More out back.
After taking, pics we decided to
venture into town to ride the
train from Durango to Silverton.

There's Jack coming out of our
little cabin named Hummingbird.

Middy and me.

We were all lovin' the snow!
It stopped snowing the closer
we got to town though.

This train stuff is serious
business for Jack and George!

The engineer blew the whistle, and it really
startled Middy. I wish I'd have had a video
set on record because it was quite funny!
This pic only catches the
beginning of her reaction.

We weren't able to get on the train
that day so we scheduled our ride for the
next day, and strolled through the
railroad museum instead.

Then, we did some shopping in
downtown Durango, and had lunch
at the Diamond Belle Saloon which
is located in the Strater Hotel.

It started snowing again during lunch.
YES! YES! YES!

Once lunch was over, we decided to go
back to the cabin and play in the snow.
George only had tennis shoes though
so we ganged up on him and made him
buy his first EVER pair of cowboy boots!
(We didn't get them in the store above
though. We were directed to a much
bigger store, the Boot Barn.)

He really likes his boots!

We got back to the cabin
and it continued to snow.
The rhythm of the river was
such a pleasant sound!

Jack and Middy built a snowman.

Rollin' rollin' rollin'

keep them doggies rollin'!

Snow hide!

Jack thought he looked like a
dog so he was named Fido.

The edge of the hustling river.

Have a seat!

It stays pretty dry under the huge
canopy of those evergreens and pines
so it's a good place to take a couple pics!
One

Two

Take in the view!

A few hours later Fido started leaning!
Sad but true!
Sniff, sniff!

Gorgeous! Don't ya think?
It looks exactly like something
you'd see in a picture!
Okay, it is a picture!

Oh but pictures cannot capture the
true beauty of the snowy landscape.
They're not bad though!
And there aren't enough words to
describe the joy that I was feeling in
the midst of all this glistening glory!

This day provided us with a spectacular
display of God's nature at it's finest!

I HIGHLY recommend O-Bar-O Cabins too!
The Hummingbird cabin was a cozy treasure,
and the owners were delightfully
friendly and quite helpful!

We will definitely be going back!

I'll post Day 2 soon.

With a Durango Snowy Smile,
D~~~~
