Kerrville, TX Area, Part 1~Empty Cross Prayer Garden

We made our way down to Buckhorn Lake Resort in Kerrville, Texas last week to meet up with our friends, Joe & Linda and Charlie & Sandy for a few days. We've stayed at this delightful little park several times now and we always enjoy it!

Each time we've been to Kerrville in the pretty Texas Hill Country, we've noticed the giant "Empty Cross" towering large on a hill high atop I-10 not far from the RV park.

Joe & Linda took us up to visit, and
oh my, it's quite a amazing place!
The obvious focal point of the Empty Cross and Sculpture Prayer Garden, this incredible site is where folks from across the country and around the world come to visit. It's a place of extraordinary nourishment for the soul!

The Coming King Sculpture
in the foreground.
The artist is Max Grenier.

The cross is 77' 7" tall!
Yep, it's a biggie.
Appropriately so!

All the sculptures are quite impressive!

The Lion of Judah

One Nation Under God sculpture is
the Star of David with 661 nails in
the shape of a cross on the left side.
That is one meaningful and thought provoking piece of art.

As I studied Peter's eyes, I felt as though
hwas going to reach out and touch me.

The Great Commission

So you can read it, here's a closer look.

The Coming King Foundation established this lovely prayer garden and others across the US and in other countries "for the purpose of bringing honor and souls to Jesus Christ." I can't think of a better reason! It's quite a special place and I look forward to visiting again.

Awesome Buckhorn Lake Resort

As I mentioned at the end of my last post, we sought a cooler place to stay for a couple of days after leaving Port Aransas. We knew that Joe & Linda and Rick & Carrie were going to join us the next day, and we knew we wanted to be near Fredericksburg so Geo steered the motorhome in that direction. After a little internet time, we were happy to discover a comfy, lovely, little park nestled in the Texas hill country at Kerrville.

The park name:

This tall windmill greeted us near the entrance.

It was perched in front of this cute barn.
I wonder what's inside the barn.
Perhaps groundskeeping equipment?

A rustic kitchen for group gathering.

Another view.
Note the motorcycle up high on the rusty tower.

We crossed this bridge to access
spacious

dog park inside a tree-lined people park!

The bridge photo was taken from the park.

The dog park is in the distance under the trees.

Elmer and Chewy perform a

serious investigation of the dog park!
You can barely see Chewy though.

Speaking of barely see...

Notice that big dot in the distance?
It's Geo relaxing in the dog park.

the bridge with Sugar, Elmer and Chewy.

As we hoped, the weather was
fabulous--perfect for sitting outside.

Quick, RUN!
LOL
Above is Joe & Linda's RV on the left,
Rick & Carrie's on the right.
Their doors faced our door across the road.
It was a cozy and convenient setup!

While at Buckhorn, we managed
an afternoon in Fredericksburg.
Joe & Linda at lunch time.

The James Avery Corporate store was only a few miles from the campground so Linda and I visited -- BOTH DAYSJoe and Geo joined us the second day, and found the museum interesting.

There's a lot to love (and we did) inside Buckhorn Lake Resort as seen above. There's also an adult section with an adult pool, stocked fishing lake, pickle ball court, tennis court, fitness center and more. Also, across the bridge is a very small neighborhood of really neat, little stone houses which serve as home bases for full-timers.

The campground is just off I-30 and you can hear the traffic in the distance. It didn't make a difference to any of us because we all loved the place! The campground is convenient to Fredericksburg, about a 20 minute drive or so.

Access to most things a camper might need (like Walmart) is only seven miles away from the campground in the Town of Kerrville, and the San Antonio River Walk is only an hour away. I'm sure there's a lot more but that's the stuff we know about right now.

We all loved
Buckhorn Lake Resort
and will definitely return in the future.

Smiles,
D~~~~
